ASAS Philadelphia Celebrates Successful First Year
When the bell rings at 3pm every day, ASAS Philadelphia presents nearly 200 middle school students with a wide range of opportunities after-school, from Zumba and Mixed Martial Arts to homework help, sports-math, dance and digital music production. Thanks to support from the New York Life Foundation, ASAS Philadelphia opened its doors in Fall 2014.
Led by Executive Director Reynelle Staley-Brown and Board Chairman Rob Recine of New York Life, ASAS Philly has had a successful first year and is poised for a fruitful second year. Through partnerships and support from board members like Rob and author and speaker Annie Duke, who has lent ASAS her expertise in the science of decision-making, have been instrumental in getting ASAS Philadelphia off the ground and headed in the right direction as we move into year two.
All-Stars like Amir C. have the dedication of both leadership and staff to thank. Amir went from wanting to “do his own thing” in the Fall to becoming an advocate and role model for his peers. Amir participated in the ‘Around the World’ program where he developed a passion for cultural diversity. We are so proud of Amir and the progress he’s made and are excited to see what lies ahead in the 2015-16 school year.
