ASAS is thrilled to announce the opening of ASAS Cleveland, launched with generous support from the New York Life Foundation. Through a $4 million, three-year partnership, the New York Life Foundation is supporting the expansion of ASAS into six new cities, including Cleveland, and previously, Newark, NJ and Philadelphia, PA.
“The New York Life Foundation is proud to support the expansion of After-School All-Stars into Cleveland because their programming, which combines academics, enrichment activities and healthy living, has a proven track record of significantly improving student achievement,” said Marlyn Torres, Senior Program Officer, New York Life Foundation. “We believe that high quality after-school programs work and that they can be particularly valuable to middle school age students. Nothing proves this point better than the fact that 99% of After-School All-Star’s “We Are Ready” students were promoted on time to ninth grade.”
To celebrate, students, New York Life representatives, board members and other stakeholders participated in an afterschool fitness clinic lead by Gold’s Gym, reinforcing the health and wellness aspect of ASAS’ work. A VIP reception followed at a local art gallery where guests enjoyed a curated photo collection of ASAS kids in action, as well as remarks from the New York Life Foundation and Cleveland Metropolitan School District leadership.
“After-School All-Stars is excited to partner with the New York Life Foundation enabling ASAS to bring after school programming to Cleveland, Ohio,” said Ben Paul, President and CEO of After-School All-Stars.
Our tremendous thanks to the New York Life Foundation for helping the students of Cleveland succeed in school and in life!
